Bobcats Drop 6-1 Decision to Northwestern State

SAN MARCOS - The Texas State women's tennis team opened its Southland Conference schedule with a 6-1 loss to Northwestern State on Saturday at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.

Texas State drops to 2-4 on the year with the loss while the Lady Demons improve to 6-4.

After being swept for the doubles point, the `Cats fell behind 3-0 on a pair of close matches in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots as Andrea Giraldo lost 4-6, 5-7 to Bogusia Patzer and Ashley Ellis lost 5-7, 3-6 to Kathrin Lange.

Rabea Hartmann kept Texas State in the match with a 7-5, 6-4 win in the No. 3 spot over Adna Curukovic, but Lainy Chafitz could not put away Bianca Schulz, losing the second and third sets 1-6, 0-6 after a 7-5 win in the first set.

Ali Gulida lost the No. 5 spot 3-6, 6-7 (5) while Jennifer Nowland lost in straight sets 1-6, 1-6 to close out the match from the No. 6 position.

Texas State returns to action on Sunday at 10 a.m. against Central Arkansas.
