Men's Golf Team Finishes In Ninth Place At Highly Contested All-American Intercollegiate Invitational

Houston - Texas State University junior golfer Corey Roberson moved up five spots and finished in a three-way tie for seventh place after shooting a 2-over-par score of 74 in the third round and ended with a three-round 6-over-par total of 222 at the All-American Intercollegiate Invitational in Houston.

The Bobcats finished in ninth place as a team in a tightly contested tournament in which five places were decided by just five strokes on the par-72, 7,220-yard Old Tradition at Cypresswood course. Texas State had the third-best team total in the third round with a score of 301 and finished the tournament with an overall team score of 905.

Middle Tennessee won the team title at the tournament with a three-round total of 891. The Blue Raiders finished one shot ahead of Arkansas-Little Rock, who posted a third-round score of 305 and finished with a three-round total of 892. Louisiana-Lafayette finished in third place with a score of 896, while New Mexico State was in fourth place with an 897 score.

The host school, Houston, finished with a score of 901, while Baylor was in sixth place with a score of 902. The Bears were one shot ahead of Lamar, two shots ahead of Jacksonville and three shots in front of the Bobcats.

Brian Whittle of Arkansas-Little Rock was the individual champion after he fired a 5-under-par score of 211. Houston's Ben Moser finished in second place eight shots back, while Thomas Petts of Louisiana-Lafayette and Joshua Stewart of New Mexico State finished in a tie for third place with a three-round score of 220.

Jacob Scriven of Texas Southern and Julian Colmenares of Jacksonville State finished in a tie for fifth place at 221, while Roberson, Russell Helson of Lamar and Jason Millard of Middle Tennessee tied for seventh at 222.

Tyler Barnes-Wolf also finished in a five-way tie for 10th place with a score of 223, while Michael Carnes finished the tournament with a score of 232. Andrew Bryant and Phillip Krebsbach both shot a score of 234 during the three days.

The Bobcats will play their next tournament on March 10-11 at the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette, La.
