Elizabeth Dennis carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning before Ragan Blake closed out a 2-0 win for Texas State over Centenary, but the Bobcats allowed four unanswered runs against Kansas to lose 4-2 during first day action at the Marriott Houston Classic.

Walks to Kristina Tello and Alex Newton led off the game against the Ladies, and both runners moved into scoring position on a passed ball with one out in the opening frame. Leah Boatright stepped in and continued her run production from last week with a two-run single.

Dennis retired the first 10 batters in order before walking Bonnie Matak in the fourth but allowed no further damage until the sixth. Centenary led off the inning with back-to-back singles by Lindsey Virdell and Jennifer Martin to put runners on the corners with no outs.

After Blake came in and induced a fly out, Newton gunned down Virdell at home on a double steal attempt for the second out before Blake struck Matak out to end the inning. Blake also pitched a scoreless seventh to seal Texas State's 2-0 win.

Dennis earned the win with five shutout innings, striking out three to improve to 1-0. Stacy Whitmer took the loss for Centenary to fall to 0-4, giving up two earned runs in just a third of an inning.

The Bobcats had a quick turnaround to play the second game of the day against Kansas but used a Jayhawk error in the second to build a 2-0 lead. A pair of walks and a hit batter loaded the bases with one out, but Taylor Hall grounded into a fielder's choice to force Jill Kloesel at home for the second out. Tello then came up and hit a grounder to third that Val Chapple threw wide of first, scoring Jenna Emery and Ashton Peters.

Kansas got both runs back in the top of the third when Amanda Jobe hit a two-run homer off Texas State starter Katie Garnett. The Jayhawks then took a 3-2 lead in the fourth when Stevie Cristoso hit into a fielder's choice. Pinch runner Ally Stanton was thrown out at home trying to score, but Cristoso rounded first and distracted the Bobcats long enough for Brittany Hile to slide in safely for a run. The Jayhawks doubled their lead to 4-2 in the fifth when Elle Pottorf was plunked with the bases loaded.

Texas State put the tying run on base in the sixth with a pair of two-out walks, but Kansas pitcher Valerie George got Allyce Rother to ground out to end the inning. George pitched four scoreless innings, allowing one hit and two walks to improve to 3-1 on the season while Garnett lasted 3.1 innings, giving up three earned runs on four hits to fall to 3-3.

The Bobcats return to action Saturday at 9 a.m. against Cal State-Northridge before playing Boston University at 11 a.m.
