Final Stats
HUNTSVILLE, Texas- Amy Weigle slams down 15 kills in 3-1 (25-18, 22-25, 30-28, 25-23) win over Sam Houston State. In what went to a rough four sets the Bobcats were able to come out on top and move their record to 19-13, 12-2 SLC. The Bearkats fall to 12-17, 7-6 SLC.
Texas State began the match with momentum as Jessica Weynand had two of the Bobcats first five kills pulling them to a 6-1 lead, which forced the Bearkats to call a timeout.
Sam Houston State was able to capitalize on a few Bobcat errors to bring the score to 8-6 in favor of Texas State. Amy Weigle went over three Bearkat blockers to score her kill and add a point to the board. Melinda Cave and Weigle had a double block followed by a Bearkat error bumping the score up to 13-8.
Weigle slammed down a kill to the Bearkat middle to seal the first set win at 25-18. Texas State had the lead the whole set, except for one tie. The Bobcat middle blockers were everywhere as they had four blocks in the set, while the Bearkats had zero.
After falling down by two to start the second set, the Bobcats were able to find openings on the Bearkats side and capitalized. With the Bobcats up 8-4 Sam Houston State took a timeout hoping to regroup.
With the Bearkats crawling back the Bobcats took a timeout with the score 13-11. Texas State went on a to extend its lead to 18-13, before a few errors saw the Bearkats take their first lead of the match at 21-20. Sam Houston State managed to edge the Bobcats 25-22 to bring the match to a 1-1 standing.
With the score in the third set resembling a ping pong ball, the score seemed to always stay locked on a tie. At about 11-9, the Bobcats were ahead by two after a Sam Houston State service error. After falling behind by a few, Texas State took a 17-15 advantage.
The score read 23-20 and the Bobcats saw themselves down in the third. Six ties later plus a Jones Wilkes kill and a Shelbi Irvin service ace gave the Bobcats the third set win.
Jones Wilkes scored the first point of the third knocking one down between two Bearkats. Weigle sent a kill straight threw a Bearkats' hands to force them to take a timeout with Texas State up 7-3.
AJ Watlington split a kill between three to give the Bobcats a 16-15 edge in the fourth. Watlington responded on the next two balls with almost the same play, scoring three straight points for Texas State.
Brittany Collins hit the ball down line right to notch a kill bringing the set to 21-18, Bobcats. Weigle nailed a kill to give the Bobcats a two-point edge at 22-20. With the score at 24-23 and the match on the line Weigle scored the last three Texas State points including the match winner.
Texas State will now return home for its last two matches of the regular season. The Bobcats will host UTSA on Friday, Nov. 14 at 7:00pm CT. They will then take the court for their last match before the conference tourney as they are set to play A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 7:00pm CT.
