Team Effort Grants Bobcats at Least a Share of SLC Crown

SAN MARCOS, Texas - With tonights win over UTSA (25-15, 25-16, 25-17) the Bobcats will at the least share a part of the Southland Conference title. The Bobcats are currently in first place, with one match to go. Texas State sent the Roadrunners back down the highway after a three-set sweep over UTSA. The Bobcats now improve to 20-13, 13-2 SLC, with the Roadrunners falling 18-11, 10-5 SLC.

Texas State started the match off well after posting a .500 hitting percentage in the first set, to UTSA's .030. The Bobcats were able to keep their errors low as they committed two to the Roadrunners nine.

Brittany Collins served eight straight points for the Bobcats taking the score from 10-All to 18-10 in favor of the home team. AJ Watlington served five of the Bobcats last six points to help take the first set by 10.

The `Cats continued to play strong in the second as they won by nine to go up, 2-0. Texas State had five service aces to help lead the way to its win. Jessica Weynand had four kills and seven digs in the set.

Making it a three-set sweep, the `Cats kept control of the match and captured the third set with ease. Lawrencia Brown scored the match winning kill off an assist from Shelbi Irvin.

Texas State did not have any players in double-digit kills, but five different players had six or more kills to make the win a team effort. Brown led all players with nine kills and 10 digs. Irvin posted the only double-double for Texas State with 15 assists and 10 digs.

The `Cats finished tonight with 13 blocks, 38 kills on .290 and had five service aces.

UTSA finished the match with a hitting percentage of .047. They had 25 errors on 129 attempts. Kendra Rowland led the Roadrunners with 14 kills and 10 digs.

With one more match left at home this season, the Bobcats will host A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday at 7:00pm. Saturday will also be Senior Night and Texas State will honor the 1998 Texas State volleyball team during intermission for its 10 year anniversary. The Bobcats will honor their seniors Lawrencia Brown, Amy Weigle and Emily Jones Wilkes before tip-off of Saturday's match.
