HOUSTON, Texas - Jessica Weynand led all Bobcats with 14 kills, but the Bobcats fell to the University of Houston on the road in five sets (23-25, 25-23, 26-24, 10-25, 12-15). Texas State finished the match with a .226 hitting percentage. The Bobcats now fall to 11-12, 3-1 SLC and have completed non-conference play.
Carrying on the momentum form the last match up between the two teams tonight, the first set was definitely a close one. Battling down to the wire, the Bobcats fell in the first set, 23-25.
Texas State came out hard in the second set and was able to flip the tables, taking the first set, 25-23, just a flip of the scores for the second set. An attack average of .281 to the Cougars .171 edged them out.
In the third set when things seemed to be neck and neck, the Bobcats pulled up the energy to pull away from the Cougars and capture the third set, 26-24. Kills by Lawrencia Brown and AJ Watlington took the game from being tied at 24 all, to the Bobcats winning the set.
After going up in the fourth set 4-3, Texas State encountered some errors that saw them fall to, 4-15. A kill by Weynand stopped the Cougars run for a moment, but Texas State was only able to score six more points before dropping the fourth set, 10-25 and extending the match to five sets.
Amy Weigle led the Bobcats through the fourth set with 13 kills (.524). Getting things started in the final set was Emily Jones Wilkes as she scored the Bobcats first two points.
Brown and Weynand both recorded double-doubles tonight for the second straight match. Brown tallied 13 kills and 10 digs. Weynand had 14 kills and 17 digs. Weigle finished the match with 13 kills, two digs and two block assists. Brittany Collins and Shelbi Irvin recorded 26 assists and 25 assists, respectively.
The Bobcats will hit the road again as they travel to UT Arlington on Saturday, Oct. 11 for a match time set for 2 p.m. CT.
