HAMMOND, La. -Continuing dominate conference play the Texas State Bobcats traveled to Southeastern La. to take on the Lady Lions this afternoon coming out victorious winning 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-23). The Bobcats proved to be a powerhouse as they swept the Lady Lions in three and kept them under a .100 hitting average. Texas State improves its record to 15-12, 8-1 SLC.
The Bobcats were able to ride the momentum off their win from last night, entering play this afternoon against Southeastern Louisiana and winning with an overall team effort. They posted a .338 hitting average today, the ninth time this season that they hit over .300.
Emily Jones Wilkes led all Bobcats in the kills' category with eight. The senior middle blocker also added four blocks to her stat sheet.
The third set has been one to haunt the Bobcats this season as they have sometimes let the set slip away. Today was not the same as they fought the Lady Lions to a 25-23 win, to capture the match and move to 8-1 in Southland Conference play.
Amber Calhoun had five kills today, hitting .533, while Jessica Weynand had six kills and eight digs.
Next up for the Bobcats is a three-match home schedule as they will play on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday of the coming week. The October 28 match will be played at 7p.m. against UT Arlington and will be the Bobcats designated Dig for Cure match.
The volleyball team will be wearing pink warm-up shirts, hair ribbons and shoe strings during the match. The two teams will also be using a commemorative pink and white ball during the match. A "Pretty in Pink" fan competition will be held for the fan in the craziest pink attire.
Donations at all Texas State events and various community locations leading up to the 28th will be accepted. Everyone wearing pink will be admitted into the match for a discounted ticket price of $2. All money raised during this match will be directly donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
All players are taking pledges. You can pledge per dig that night or make a flat donation, of your choice, to the cause. The money raised by the Bobcats, goes directly to the Austin Affiliate of Susan G. Komen to help aid their efforts. Donations will be accepted now and up until two weeks after the match.
A silent auction will be held during that night from 6:00p.m. until the start of set three. Items ranging from Bobcat apparel to household items etc. will be auctioned off.
The volleyball team would also like to recognize and honor any survivors of this disease during our intermission between sets two and three. Sue Biederman, a breast cancer survivor and chair of Health Information Management, will be the spokesperson for the evening. All survivors will be invited to come down to the floor at this time and be with Sue as they are presented with a pink carnation and honored for their victory!
