SAN MARCOS - The Texas State volleyball team beat the visiting Bearkats of Sam Houston State 3-1 (25-14, 25-10, 16-25, 25-13), tonight for their first Southland Conference win at home in the 2008 season. Lawrencia Brown was all aboard as she tallied 12 kills and eight digs in the Bobcat win. Texas State improves its overall record to 9-11, 2-1 SLC.

Melinda Cave led all players in the first set as she recorded three assists and a block assist. The Bobcats won the first set 25-14 hitting a solid .333 and only having two attack errors.

The Bobcats improved in the second set as they were able to roll through with a 25-10 win. With the team hitting .483, Brown found her niche as she had four kills digs in the set.

The third set did not fare well for the Bobcats as their hitting percentage dropped. Errors hurt the Bobcats bad as they were not able to make a comeback and dropped the third set, 16-25.

The Bobcats were back to themselves as they ran away with the fourth set 25-13, improving their conference record to, 2-1.

Emily Jones Wilkes and Amy Weigle both hit .467 tonight with seven kills each; neither one having an error. Weigle had three block assists and Jones Wilkes had four block assists and one block solo.

Texas State will be back in action Saturday, Oct. 4 at 2 p.m. as they will take on Lamar. Saturday's match will be considered Girl Scout Day as all girl scouts wearing their uniform will get in free. All girl scout sponsor with a minimum of six girls will get in free also.
