Nacogdoches, Texas - Lauren Lewis capped a winning weekend of Texas State Bobcat soccer when she scored the lone goal of the match against the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks Sunday afternoon to give Texas State its fifth-straight win and sole possession of the Southland Conference first-place mark with the 1-0 success in Nacogdoches, Texas.

The `Cats remain unbeaten against league opponents and improve to 5-0-1, 9-3-3 overall, while SFA drops to 3-2-0 in the SLC and 6-7-0 overall.

"It was definitely a hard fought game," said head coach Kat Conner. "We went back and forth, back and forth, and thankfully we walked away with the win."

The victory came off the head of Lewis in the 57th minute when teammate Andrea Grifo connected with the sophomore on a nicely placed corner kick, Texas State's only corner opportunity of the half. Lewis tucked in the high header from point-blank range to record her third-career goal and what proved to be back-to-back game winning scores.

"Lauren came up big this week," added Conner. "She is constantly working on the field and becomes a magnet to the ball and just lands in the right place at the right time."

Down 1-0, SFA put forth effort to tie the decision, taking a 10-6 edge over the Bobcats in shots in the final half. SLC Player of the Week Megan Cash footed two of the `Jacks three shots on goal, but junior Mandi Mawyer turned away the trio of shots to maintain the shutout.

"The final 18 minutes were very tough because Stephen F. Austin threw everything they had at us to comeback," added Conner. "Nacogdoches is a tough place to play and SFA a good team. I am very proud of the way our girls played today."

SFA held a 17-11 advantage over Texas State in overall shots and tallied seven corner kicks to the `Cats six.

Mawyer improves to 4-1-1 after the decision and snagged her fifth shutout of the season, a career-mark for the San Antonio native.

Courtney Bauder earned three saves in her 90:00 of action.

Texas State will look to retain its top position next weekend when they travel south to face UTSA Sunday afternoon in the Maroon vs. Orange I-35 Rivalry game. Kick-off is slated for a 1p.m. start and live stats will be available via www.GoUTSA.com.
