SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Bobcats proved to be too much to handle for the Northwestern State as they beat the visiting demons 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-22). Northwestern falls to 7-11, 2-6 SLC, while the Bobcats improve to 13-12, 6-1 SLC. Emily Jones Wilkes led all players with nine kills.
Today's win proved to be an all-around effort for Texas State as multiple Bobcats did their part in tonight's win. Getting off to a solid start in the first set was Jones Wilkes and Lawrencia Brown, who both had three kills. Although the hitting percentage was not high (.179) Texas State was still able to beat the Lady Demons by seven for its largest win margin of the night.
The second set was almost an exact replica of the first. Two differences between the first two sets were that the hitting percentage went up to .262, and Amy Weigle knocked down six kills on one error, hitting over .400. Much like the first, the Bobcats won the set 25-18, to take the first two.
Starting the third set the Lady Demons saw themselves slightly ahead of Bobcats for the main part of the set. After a few timeouts and a couple minutes to get refocused the Bobcats were able to gain momentum and take over the third and final set. Leaving a little room for error, Texas State won the final set, 25-22.
Texas State has now won its second straight match 3-0, going 2-0 on the week in conference play.
Amber Calhoun tallied the highest hitting percentage of the night for the Bobcats as she had seven kills on 11 attempts, with only one error for .545.
