Texas State Sweeps Southwestern Invitational

SAN MARCOS, Texas- The Texas State men's and women's cross country teams both placed first at the Southwestern Cross Country Invitational this morning held at the Kurth-Landrum Golf Course on Southwestern University's Campus. This was the last race for the Bobcats this month.

Tenley Determan led the women's side as she placed first out of the xx man field. Determan crossed the line in a time of 22:18. Texas State swept the Top 3 spots with Heather Bullin and Amanda McKinney completing the 1-2-3 sweep. Bullin completed the course in 23:03 and McKinney had a time of 23:35. Sandra Venegas and Kelly Butler completed the top five finishers for Texas State.

The men's side swept first through sixth places as it was definitely a team effort today. Jonathan Hernandez finished the 8k hill-filled golf course race in 27:24.1. Michael Richards was the next Bobcat to cross the line as he was five seconds behind Hernandez with 27:29. Freshman Michael Morris continued to make positive strides as he took third in a time of 27:41. Roel Elizalde was on his heels crossing the line in 27:44. Hugo Corral rounded out the group with 27:47.

The next race for the Bobcats will be when they travel to Stephen F. Austin for the Southland Conference Cross Country Championships that will take place on November 3.
