Jones Wilkes Downs 20 in Win Over UTA

ARLINGTON, Texas- Texas State volleyball team beat UT Arlington on the road in five sets (25-17, 25-22, 24-26, 22-25, 15-12). The Bobcats were led by Emily Jones Wilkes, who had 20 kills and three block assists. This is the second straight match were the Bobcats went to five full sets. Texas State improves its record to 11-12, 4-1 SLC, and are on a three-match win streak in Southland Conference play.

Finishing the match with an overall .207 hitting average, Texas State started the first two sets .300+.

The 19 errors in sets three and four proved costly for the Bobcats as they fell by a combined five points. Regaining their composure in the fifth and final set, the Bobcats were able to come out on top winning the last set, 15-12 and bringing home a win.

Jessica Weynand posted her third straight double-double today, with 14 kills and 12 digs. Amy Weigle had 13 kills, while Lawrencia Brown had eight kills and 28 digs, just short of a double-double.

UT Arlington was led by Amanda Aguilera, who had 20 kills and 19 digs.

Texas State will be back in action again this coming week as they continue road play at Central Arkansas on Wednesday, Oct. 15a. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m.
