SAN MARCOS -
First half goals from Britney Curry and Andrea Seledee paved the way for a 4-0 Texas State victory Sunday over Houston at the Bobcat Soccer Complex, snapping an eight-game losing streak for the `Cats.
The Bobcats (1-8) doubled up in the second half with goals from Nicole Kinard and Jerelyn Lemmie and were able to hold off any attempts by the Cougars (3-2-1) to get on the board.
Curry scored first in the 12th minute off some great passing. Seledee found Crissy set up at the top of the box, and Crissy sent a touch pass to Curry on the right side, where the freshman forward faked out UH goalie Shelby Scott for an easy score.
In the 38th minute it was Seledee scoring, fetching a rebound off a corner kick and burying it for Texas State's second goal.
Kinard extended it to 3-0 in the 61st minute with a blast from 20 yards out. Christina Racanelli tallied the assist, as Scott couldn't come up with a save for the Cougars. Texs State then capped the scoring in the 73rd minute when Lemmie, after a UH defender let a pass drift away from her, launched a shot from 40 yards out over the head of Scott, who had drifted out of the goal.
The Cougars had chances to get on the scoreboard throughout the match, but Amanda Byrd made six saves to record her first shutout. Scott finished with eight saves for UH.
Texas State will have nearly two weeks off before opening Southland Conference play October 5 at Southeastern Louisiana.
