Rice midfielder Kate Edwards scored on a corner kick with just over a minute to play as the Owls defeated Texas State 2-1 Friday.
With the loss, the Bobcats fell to 0-8 heading into Sunday's home match against Houston. Sunday's match begins at 1 p.m. at the Bobcat Soccer Complex. Rice is now 5-2-1.
Rice was able to jump out to an early lead Friday when Erin Scott on a goal off a pass from Edwards.
Texas State tied the match at 1-1 when Jerelyn Lemmie scored on a long cross from Britney Curry in the match's 73rd minute.
Rice outshot the Bobcats 20-8 with the Owls having eight shots on goal compared to Texas State's five.
Sunday's match against Houston will be the final tune-up prior to Southland Conference play for Texas State. The Bobcats will be off next weekend before opening league play at Southeastern Louisiana and Nicholls State the first week of October.
