Sept. 22, 2007

Final Stats

SAN MARCOS - Amy Weigle had 17 kills with zero errors in 26 attacks, Shelbi Irvin became the first Bobcat this season to have a 20-20 match with 28 assists and 25 digs, and Texas State overcame a tough game two loss for a 3-1 win (30-24, 29-31, 30-22, 30-17) Saturday against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

The win extended Texas State's (8-5, 2-0 SLC) season-high win streak to five matches, while the Islanders (3-11, 0-2 SLC) lost for the tenth time in the past 11 matches.

Runs of 7-1 and 9-2 helped the `Cats build a 23-10 lead in game one, and the deficit proved too great for A&M-Corpus Christi to overcome as Texas State took the game 30-24.

The Islanders rallied in game two, building a 14-7 lead before Texas State came back to tie it. The teams would battle for an advantage through 11 ties and four lead changes, and Jessica Weynand's attack error at game point tied it at 29-29 to keep A&M-Corpus Christi in the game. Christie Feliz then notched a kill before Lauren Paslay served an ace to even the match up 1-1 at half time.

Texas State jumped out to a 10-5 lead in a pivotal game three, but the Islanders rallied to take a 13-12 lead. The Bobcats responded with eight straight points behind four Islander errors and two kills each from Weynand and Weigle. The points were part of a 14-2 Texas State run that put the `Cats up 26-15, where they easily closed out the game 30-22.

With momentum clearly on their side, the Bobcats opened game four with another 10-5 lead, this time never trailing in game four. A&M-Corpus Christi would get no closer than three points at 13-10, falling 30-17 in the game to seal the match.

Irvin became the first Bobcat to record a 20-20 match since Lawrencia Brown had 24 kills and 26 digs against Sam Houston State in 2006. Irvin's 25 digs were also a season high for a Texas State player this season.

Weigle continued her recent hot streak with a .654 hitting percentage while adding eight digs and seven blocks. Weynand finished with 11 kills and 18 digs for the Bobcats, while Emily Jones added 14 kills and nine blocks. Kacey Wimpy also had 17 digs.

The Islanders had four players reach double figures in kills, led by Feliz's 14. Feliz was also one of five Islanders with over 10 digs, finishing with 14. Lauren Paslay and Kasey McBrearty also had double-doubles, as Paslay had 11 kills and 13 digs while McBrearty added 11 kills and 12 digs.

Texas State will next step out of conference looking to continue its winning ways against TCU on Tuesday, Sept. 25.
