SAN MARCOS -
Mandi Mawyer had six saves, but two second-half goals by Tameka Sumter gave UTEP a 2-0 win Sunday afternoon in San Marcos.
After battling to a scoreless first half, Sumter deflected a Cortney Casey corner off her head past Mawyer from the left post in the 48th minute. Sumter then doubled the lead in the 51st minute when Jami Tullius found her in the box on a crossing pass.
Texas State finished with three shots on goal, including a hard blast from Andrea Seledee, but nothing got past UTEP's Jessica Salvi. The Bobcats were out-shot by a 20-9 margin for the match.
Texas State returns to action on Friday, Sept. 21 in Houston against Rice. The Bobcats will look to avenge a 2-1 loss at home last season to the Owls.
