Final Stats

WACO - Jessica Weynand had 10 kills and 13 digs, but Texas State couldn't build on a game one win, opening the 2007 season with a hard fought 3-1 loss (30-26, 29-31, 17-30, 28-30) at Baylor.

Lawrencia Brown led the `Cats with 15 kills while Kacey Wimpy added 24 digs, but the Bobcats managed only a .124 hitting percentage for the match.

The match opened close, as a 3-0 Bobcat run gave Texas State (0-1) an early 9-8 lead. Another run stretched the lead to 18-14, prompting a Baylor (3-1) timeout. Down 25-18, Baylor tried to mount a comeback and got within 26-23, but a pair of AJ Watlington kills propelled the `Cats to a 30-26 win in game one.

Baylor evened the match at 1-1 after a roller coaster game two. After the Bears staked an 18-11 lead, a massive 13-3 Bobcat run capped by a pair of Weynand aces gave Texas State a 24-21 lead. Baylor responded with a 6-2 run of its own to take a 28-26 lead, but a Brown kill tied it at 28-28 before a pair of Bobcat errors gave Baylor the 31-29 win.

The Bears grabbed a 2-1 lead with a hot start after the break, opening game three with a 6-2 lead before stretching it to 18-9. Texas State managed a 4-1 rally to make it 18-13, but Baylor closed out the game with a 12-4 run for the 30-17 win, out-hitting the Bobcats .333-to-.025 for the game.

Texas State used a 4-0 run to open game four with a 9-5 lead, but the Bears kept things close. The teams traded points until a pair of Baylor errors put the Bobcats up 16-14. A Brown kill paired with a Wimpy ace helped extend the lead to 20-15, but Baylor used a 7-1 rally to take a 22-21 lead.

The Bobcats fought back to within 28-27, but Ashlee Cooper closed out the match with a tip at the net, giving Baylor the 3-1 victory.

Katie Sanders paced the Baylor attack with 20 kills and a .419 hitting percentage while adding 17 digs.

The Bobcats will travel back up I-35 to North Texas for a weekend tournament. Texas State will face Georgia State and UMKC along with the host Mean Green.
