San Marcos - The Texas State baseball team got back on track Friday night, as they played their way to a 13-3 victory over Stephen F. Austin. It was a big night for the Bobcats with David Wood hitting two home runs and Jason Baca making his 78th career appearance for a new school record.

Texas State improves to 16-6 in the Southland Conference and 31-16 overall, while SFA falls to 12-10 in the SLC and 25-22 overall. The game was called, due to the ten run rule in the eighth inning after Casey Guest singled to right center, giving the Bobcats a ten run lead.

Wood started things off with a bang right away in the first inning, hitting his first home run of the night.

The Bobcats took a, 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Guest walked and moved to second on a Thomas Field single. Both batters moved up one base as a result of a David Miller balk. Adam Witek singled, scoring both Guest and Field. Witek stole second, his 21st of the year, and moved to third on another Miller balk. Aaron Garza singled for the RBI.

The Lumberjacks scored one run in the fourth, after Steven Hill scored off of a Kevin Crabtree single.

Jared Bunn scored a run in fourth, while Wood hit his second home run of the night in the fifth, scoring two runs and giving Texas State a 6-1 lead.

SFA would not go down without a fight, scoring two runs in the sixth inning.

But the Bobcats would have big innings in the both the seventh and eighth. Bunn, Laurn Randell and Wood all scored in the seventh, off of three hits and one Lumberjack throwing error. In the eighth inning, Witek and Garza both scored. Randell, the game ending run, moved to third and scored off of a Guest hit.

In addition to hitting his 11th home run of the season, Wood went two-for-four at the plate and scored three runs. Witek went three-for-five and scored three runs with two RBIs, while Randell and Bunn each scored two runs.

Justin Fiske had another stellar outing, pitching seven innings. He allowed eight hits, three runs to score and retired four before Baca came in. The senior from Sweeny etched his name into the Texas State record books, with one innings of work. Baca knocks off Michael Gultz, who held the previous record with 77 career appearances from 2001-2004.

The Bobcats and the Lumberjacks face off in game two on May 5. Game is slated for 2:00 p.m. at Bobcat Field.
