Texas State belted out 19 hits, including three home runs to defeat McNeese State 18-5 in the final game of the series. The game was called after the seventh inning, due to the conference run rule.
Aaron Garza hit his fifth home run of the season in the third, Casey Guest hit his third homer of the season in the fourth, while Ben Theriot hit his first collegiate home run in the sixth.
The Bobcats move to 19-8 in the Southland Conference and 34-19 overall, while the Cowboys drop to 16-10 in the SLC and 20-30 overall. Texas State comes out 2-1 in the series against McNeese State. The Bobcats won the first game 2-1 and then fell in game two, 10-7.
The Cowboys put runs up on the board first and led 2-0 after the top of the second.
Texas State wasted no time, scoring five runs in the bottom of the second, taking a 5-2 lead. Paul Goldschmidt, Gerry Cervantez, Jared Bunn, Casey Guest and Thomas Field all scored off of five hits to take the lead.
The Bobcats picked up where they left off, scoring seven runs in the third inning. The inning was highlighted by Garza's three-run homer and put Texas State up, 12-2.
Texas State took a 15-2 lead after the fourth inning, thanks to a three-run homer by Guest.
The Bobcats added their final runs in the bottom of the sixth. Theriot led off the inning with a home run and Bunn would score his fourth run of the day while Guest scored his third.
The Cowboys were able to add two runs in the seventh, one of those runs being a home run hit by Thomas Zabasky.
Guest was four-for-four at the plate with six RBIs and scoring three runs. Garza went two-for-four with five RBIs while David Wood went four-for-five at the plate with two RBIs and scored one run.
Texas State will play its last home game of the regular season, Thursday, May 17 at 6:30 p.m. The Bobcats face SLC leader Texas-San Antonio for a three game series. Game one of the series will also be senior night. The Bobcats will honor seniors: Jason Baca, B.J. Boening, Jared Bunn, Pat Crumpton, Justin Fiske, Aaron Garza, Casey Guest, Matt Oakes and David Wood.
The Bobcats will finish out the regular season at UTSA, playing at Roadrunner Field. Game two of the series takes place on Friday, May 18 at 6:00 p.m. and game three is on Saturday, May 19 at 2:00 p.m.
