Lamar Snaps Bobcat Win Streak

SAN MARCOS - Despite playing a player short, Lamar won four singles matches and also claimed the doubles point in positing a 5-2 win over Texas State in Southland Conference play Friday.

With the loss, Texas State had a four-match win streak come to an end as the Bobcats dropped to 10-6 overall and 6-3 in Southland Conference play. Lamar is now 10-8 and 5-2.

Texas State's lone win on the court came at No. 5 singles where Ali Gulida defeated Manami Kuroda 6-2, 6-1.

The decisive match was at No. 2 singles where Lamar's Maria Gutierrez came back from a first set loss to beat Texas State's Andrea Giraldo 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. The Bobcats' Rabea Hartmann also lost a three-set match, as Manijee Ashrafi came back to win 4-6, 7-6, 10-7.

Friday's match was the final home event for the Bobcats. Texas State travels to Southeastern Louisiana and Nicholls State next week to wrap up match play. The Southland Conference Tournament is slated April 20-22 in San Antonio.
