Bobcats Come Back to Win Game Three

SAN MARCOS--Texas State went 1-1 in a double header with Sam Houston State on April 6. After losing a tight 1-0 battle in game two of the series, the Bobcats came back to pick up the final game, 5-1. Aaron Garza led the way going three-for-four at the plate, including his third home run of the season in game three.

Texas State finished the weekend 2-1, after defeating Sam Houston State 12-1 on Thursday night. The Bobcats are now 23-11 overall and 10-2 in conference. The Bearkats fall to 22-12 on the season and 8-4 in the conference.

Mike Hart threw a complete game, allowing eight hits and one run, while striking out seven. He gave up a home run in the sixth inning to Bobby Verbick. This is was Verbick's eighth home run of the year.

The Bobcats had several chances to score, leaving runners stranded on base in the first, fourth, seventh and ninth innings. Bearkat pitcher Jacob Howard held the Bobcats to just five hits and struck out four.

Aaron Garza was two-for-three while Paul Goldschmidt went two-for-four at the plate.

Texas State 5, Sam Houston State 1
The Bobcats came back from a disappointing loss to score five runs off of five hits. Aaron Garza lifted the Texas State spirits by hitting a home run and two doubles. He went three-for-four, scoring two runs with one RBI.

Laurn Randell, Paul Goldschmidt and Garza put Texas State on the board, with three runs in the fourth. Randell walked and moved to third on a David Wood hit. Goldschmidt hit a fielder's choice, scoring Randell. Garza stepped up and belted a ball over the left field wall for a two-run homer, putting the Bobcats up 3-0.

Texas State would extend their lead in the seventh, scoring two more runs. Garza doubled down the left field line and Jared Bunn and Pat Crumpton walked, loading the bases. Gerry Cervantez hit a fielder's choice, scoring Garza. In the same play, Crumpton was thrown out at second and Bunn scored off of an error by the second baseman, who was going for the double play.

The Bearkats were able to get a run in the eighth inning.

Texas State will play five home games in the next week, as they take on Texas-Pan American and Southeastern Louisiana. The Bobcats host the Broncs on April 10 at 6:30 p.m. and April 11 at 3:00 p.m. They will then duke it out in a three-game series with the Lions beginning on Friday, APril 13 at 6:30 p.m. All games will take place at Bobcat Field.
