Texas State Falls to Southeastern Louisiana, 5-2

SAN MARCOS--Texas State could not overcome 12 hits and committed three errors in a 5-2 loss to Southeastern Louisiana on April 14. The Bobcats fall to 11-3 in the Southland Conference and 26-11 overall. The Lions improve to 6-8 in conference and 23-14 overall.

The Lions jumped on the scoreboard first, scoring one run in the second inning. Xavier Qualls tripled and scored off a Scott Viator ground out.

The Bobcats took a 2-1 lead at the conclusion of second inning. Aaron Garza singled to left field and stole second base. Jared Bunn stepped up to plate and singled to right field, scoring Garza. Pat Crumpton posted a hit of his own and would score off of an error by the Lions second base man.

But the damage was done in the fourth inning, as the Lions would score three runs off of four hits. Southeastern Louisiana added a final run in the seventh.

Texas State had chances to score, leaving runners stranded on base in the third, fourth and fifth innings. David Wood and Garza were both two-for-four at the plate.

Mike Hart struck out five batters and got the Bobcats out of some tough innings but was credited with the loss and is now 6-3 on the season. Jason Baca also threw for Texas State. He allowed three hits, one run and struck out four.

The two face off April 15 at 1:00 p.m. at Bobcat Field for the final game of the three-game series.
