Texas State Overcomes Texas-Pan American, 3-1

Final Stats

SAN MARCOS-- Eric Weaver threw 1.2 innings, helping Texas State overcome Texas-Pan American 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon. Weaver allowed no hits, no runs and struck out the final Bronc batter in the top of the ninth for the win.

The Bobcats improve to 25-11 overall and 10-2 in conference, while the Broncs fall to 13-27 overall. Texas State posted ten hits, with Paul Goldschmidt going three-for-four at the plate.

Texas-Pan American got on the scoreboard first, scoring one run in the seventh inning. Catcher Osiel Flores doubled and when Patrick Brooks doubled.

Texas State had several chances to score, leaving runners stranded on base in the first, second, third and seventh innings. It wouldn't be until the eighth inning when the Bobcats would come alive, scoring three runs off of four hits.

Laurn Randell led off the eighth inning with a single to center field. He moved to second on a balk and in scoring position at third with a passed ball. Goldschmidt stepped up to the plate, hitting a single to left field, scoring Randell and tying the game at 1-1.

Aaron Garza singled, advancing Goldschmidt to second and both runners would move ahead one base on the throw. With one out, Jared Bunn grounded out to second base, scoring Goldschmidt and putting Garza at third. Garza would score off of a Jon Lieber hit.

Weaver and the Bobcats took care of business in the ninth, getting a double play and striking out the last batter.

Ty Harrington's Bobcats will take on Southland Conference opponent Southeastern Louisiana in a three-game series beginning on Friday, April 13 at 6:30 p.m. at Bobcat Field. Game two is on April 14 at 2:00 p.m. and game three will take place on April 15 at 1:00 p.m.
