WACO - David Wood belted out his fourth home run of the season but Texas State (12-6) could not hold on to an early lead and dropped a 6-4 decision at Baylor (10-6).

Wood drilled a two-run homer off a 3-1 pitch by Baylor reliever Drew Jeffcoat in the top of the fifth to give the Bobcats a 4-1 lead.

After Thomas Field turned a double play with the bases loaded to get out of the second, Texas State jumped on the scoreboard in the third. Freshman catcher Ben Theriot walked and scored on a Casey Guest double to right field.

Baylor pitcher Wade Mackey would strikeout two Bobcats but Wood stepped up and singled to left before Guest scored off of a Bear error, putting the Bobcats up 2-0 in the top of the third.

Baylor would answer with a run in the bottom of the third. Ben Booker walked, stole second and Aaron Miller singled, scoring Booker. The Bears threatened to score again with runners on first and second. Laurn Randell would catch a fly ball to deep center field to end the inning.

Wood's home run in the fifth drove in Field, who reached on an error.

The Bears would erase the three-run advantage with a pair of runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.

In the fifth inning, the Bears scored two runs - one on an RBI single by Beamer Weeks and the second came after the Bobcats turned a double play to get the first two outs of the inning.

Baylor's Chase Gerdes and Gregg Glime both drew walks in the sixth inning and would come around to score. Glime would score what proved to to be the game-winning run after moving to third on an error and scoring when Ben Booker grounded out to first base.

A Seth Hammock solo home run would put the Bears up 6-4 after eight innings.

In addition to hitting his fourth home run, Wood went two-for-four at the plate with one RBI.

Despite giving up two hits and two runs of which one was earned in three innings of middle relief, Jason Baca was saddled with the loss to fall to 3-1. Baylor's Willie Kempf worked two innings and picked up his first decision of the year.

Texas State travels to Dallas to take on Toledo, March 9 and Missouri March 10. The games will be played at Dallas Baptist University.
