SAN MARCOS - Texas State swept all three doubles matches while Lainy Chafitz and Ali Gulida won singles matches in three sets as the Bobcats defeated McNeese State 5-2 Sunday.

The win was Texas State's first against McNeese State and allowed the Bobcats to improve to 5-4 and even their Southland Conference record to 1-1. McNeese State fell to 3-2 and 0-1.

Texas State opened play Sunday by winning all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Sumarie Muller and Galida teamed for an 8-1 win over Inga Efimenko and Romana Huller at No. 3 doubles. While Muller and Galida quickly got off the court with a win, Texas State's other two doubles teams were both down 5-2 early.

Chafitz and Rabea Hartmann rallied for an 8-7 win over Urska Dobersek and Victoria Martinez while Ashley Ellis and Andrea Giraldo rebounded for an 8-6 win over Petra Gudeli and Natascha Jongeneel.

Texas State then captured four of the six singles matches to earn the victory.

"Right now our team is pretty confident which is something we haven't seen in a very long time," said Texas State coach Tory Plunkett.

The Bobcats return to action Saturday when they travel to Stephen F. Austin.
