Final Stats

SAN MARCOS-- Texas State defeated Texas Southern, 7-0 for the three-game series sweep. The Bobcats were led by freshman Laurn Randell who scored three runs and was two-for-four at the plate with one RBI. On the mound for Texas State was Justin Fiske. The senior, now 1-1, threw six innings, allowing three hits and striking out eight. 

 

Texas State (12-5) scored first, putting up one run in the first inning. Randell hit a double and was brought in by a David Wood double. Randell and Wood would score again in the third, putting the Bobcats up 3-0.

 

At the conclusion of the fourth, Texas State led 6-0. Pat Crumpton and Thomas Field both walked and would score off of Randell and Wood singles. Randell scored his third run off of a Tiger error.

 

Field concluded the scoring with one run in sixth. Field walked, stole second and scored off of Randell and Wood ground outs.

 

The Bobcat pitching staff only allowed three hits and struck out a total of 11 batters. At the plate, Wood was two-for-five with two RBIs and Adam Witek went two-for-four with one RBI. Texas State forced Texas Southern to commit six errors.

 

Texas State takes on Baylor in Waco, Texas for game two on March 6th. The Bobcats fell, 10-4, earlier in the season. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
