Texas State Holds On for 7-3 Victory

ARLINGTON-- Senior Jared Bunn was four-for-four while junior Elliott Babcock went three-for-three at the plate, in a 7-3 win over Texas-Arlington on Saturday. Bunn scored two runs with one RBI, while Babcock had three RBIs and scored one run.

Texas State is now 5-0 in Southland Conference play, 18-8 overall. This was the seventh straight loss for the Mavericks, putting them at 9-17 overall and 0-5 in the SLC.

The Bobcats put one run up on the board right away, as Thomas Field would score. Field started off the game with a double down the left field line and was brought in by a Bunn hit. Texas-Arlington added a run in the second, tying the game at 1-1.

Texas State took the lead back in the fourth, driving in two runs. Bunn singled and was brought in by a Laurn Randell double and Randell scored off of a Babcock sacrifice fly. The Bobcats added three more runs in the sixth, with Adam Witek, Bunn and Babcock all scoring.

The Mavericks cut the lead in the seventh, scoring two runs. Right fielder Matthew Otteman singled and was brought in by a Ben Burum home run. Texas State finished up the scoring, adding a run in the eighth.

Justin Fiske was on the mound for the Bobcats, throwing eight innings. The senior allowed six hits, three runs and struck out six. Eric Weaver made his second appearance of the series with Texas-Arlington, closing the game. Weaver allowed no hits, no runs and struck out one.

The final game with Mavericks takes place on March 25 at 1:00 p.m.
