Final Stats
ARLINGTON--Texas State posted 14 hits and seven RBIs in 8-1 victory over Texas-Arlington. The Bobcats scored the majority of their runs in the second and seventh innings and are now 4-0 in the Southland Conference and 17-8 overall. Texas-Arlington falls to 0-4 in the SLC and 9-16 overall.
On the mound, the Bobcats were led by Mike Hart. Hart threw seven innings, allowing three hits, no runs and struck out five. At bat, Laurn Randell, Elliot Babcock and Casey Guest led the way, scoring two runs a piece. Randell was three-for-five at the plate and Guest was two-for-five with two RBIs.
Texas State jumped to a 4-0 lead in the second inning. Randell and Babcock both singled and scored off of a Ben Theriot hit and a Maverick error. Theriot scored off of a Guest single to right center and Guest was brought home by a David Wood hit.
Both teams were held scoreless until the sixth, when Guest scored his second run of the night. Guest singled and Field was hit by a pitch, moving Guest to second base. Senior Aaron Garza hit a ball through the left side to score Guest.
Adam Witek, Randell and Babcock scored off of four hits and one error, putting the Bobcats up 8-0 in the seventh.
The Mavericks attempted a comeback in the ninth, loading the bases with two outs. Closer Eric Weaver was brought in to replace Josh Walter. Weaver walked catcher David Masters, scoring Ben Burum. Weaver ended it there, forcing Collin Garner to ground out to first base.
Game two of the series takes place March 24th at 2:00 p.m.
