AUSTIN--Texas State led early and staged a comeback, but couldn't hold on for a 5-3 loss to Texas. The Bobcats were led on the mound by Eric Weaver. Weaver threw three innings, striking out four for a new career high. Texas State falls to 16-8 on the season while Texas improves to 20-7.

The Bobcats got on the scoreboard first, scoring two runs right away. Thomas Field and Laurn Randell would both walk, brining up senior David Wood. Wood stepped up to the plate and hit a double to left center, scoring both Field and Randell.

Designated hitter Russell Muldenhauer put the Longhorns within one, hitting a home run in the bottom of the second. Texas would pull ahead in the third, adding two runs.

Texas State tried to mix things up, sending in reliever Jason Baca, but the change didn't faze Texas. At the end of the fourth, Texas was up 5-2, adding two more runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Ty Harrington's Bobcats staged an attempted comeback in the top of the seventh, with runners occupying first and third. Elliott Babcock singled to right center and moved to third by a Casey Guest single, with one out, Texas brought in Randy Boone. A Boone balk would score Babcock and advance Guest to second. Texas was able to get out of the jam, getting two outs off of a pick off and strikeout.

The Bobcats are back on the road, as they travel to compete against Texas-Arlington for their second Southland Conference game series. Texas State is currently 3-0 in conference, following a three-game sweep against Nicholls State.
