Final Stats
SAN MARCOS-- Texas State (14-7) scored first and racked up four runs in the eighth for the 8-1 victory over Nicholls State. Thomas Field went two-for-five at the plate, scoring two runs with two RBIs and Ben Theriot was one-for-three with two runs in the win.
Mike Hart threw eight innings, giving up the lone run in the top of the sixth. Hart allowed two hits, one earned run and struck out nine and goes to 5-1 on the season.
Texas State got on the scoreboard and led 3-0 going into the fourth. Field reached on an error and scored off of a David Wood double in the first. Third baseman Adam Witek and catcher Theriot added runs in the second. Both walked to get on base and were brought in on a Field double.
Nicholls State cut the lead to 3-1, picking up their lone run in the sixth. Second baseman Quinton Corley reached on a fielder's choice and scored off of a Ryan Bledsoe single.
The Bobcats added a run in the seventh, as Field singled, advanced to second by a Laurn Randell sacrifice bunt and scored off of a balk. Four runs in the eighth would seal the win for Texas State as Aaron Garza, Witek, Elliott Babcock and Theriot all scored.
The Bobcats are now 1-0 in the Southland Conference and game two of the series takes place March 17 at 2:00 p.m. at Bobcat Field.
