Bobcats Drop Game in DBU Tournament

March 10, 2007

Final Stats

DALLAS-- Despite David Wood and Jared Bunn home runs, Texas State could not overcome two big Missouri innings and fell 14-4 at the Dallas Baptist Tournament. The Bobcats led 2-1 at the end of the first, but six runs in the second and four in the eighth would seal a victory for the Tigers. Kyle Gembler threw one inning and falls to 2-3 on the season, while Texas State slips to 13-7.

Wood led the way, hitting his fifth home run of the season and going two-for-four at the plate with two RBIs. Bunn, posting his third home run of the season, went three-for-four with two RBIs as well.

After the first inning, the Tigers led 1-0. Laurn Randell would double in the bottom of the first and scored off of a Wood double. Bunn tripled down the right field line, for his first triple of the season, scoring Wood.

Two Mizzou runs scored before Texas State would have a pitching change. Jason Baca was brought in to relieve Gembler, but the switch didn't faze the Tigers, as they went on to score four more runs.

A Tiger run was added in the third, putting Mizzou up, 8-2. Wood's home run came in the third and Bunn's in the sixth, cutting the Missouri lead to four. That was the closest the Bobcats would get all night. Missouri ran in four runs in the eighth and two in the ninth, securing the win.

The Bobcats are back at home this weekend, as they face their first Southland Conference opponent, Nicholls State. The three-game series begins Friday, March 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Bobcat Field.
