SAN MARCOS - Brandon Long came off the bench to score 26 points, knocking down 5-of-9 three-pointers, as Texas-Arlington scored a 110-103 road win over Texas State Saturday in Strahan Coliseum.

The game wrapped up both teams' first run through the Southland Conference's West Division. UTA pulled even with the Bobcats in the league standings with the win as both squads are now 8-14 overall and 3-6 in SLC play.

Long was not the only UTA player to come off the bench and have a hot scoring night for the Mavericks. Larry Posey was 8-of-10 from the field en route to an 18-point game, the most points in a conference game by the junior forward. The tandem led a 56 percent shooting night by the Mavs.

Texas State also got off to a hot start from the field. The Bobcats shot 51 percent in the first period and led by as many as eight before UTA later went on a 13-2 run. The Mavericks led 53-48 at the break.

While UTA shot better in the second half - the Mavs converted on 56.5 percent of their shots after intermission - Texas State shooting percentage cooled off after the Bobcats had regained the lead in the period. The `Cats led 82-76 with 9:06 to play.

A 10-2 Maverick run would put UTA back out in front, 86-84 but Dylan Moseley answered the rally with a three-pointer to give Texas State its final lead.

After regaining the lead on Moseley's trey, the Bobcats went cold from the field missing their next six shots. Over about a three-and-a-half minute stretch, UTA scored 13 unanswered points to build a 99-87 lead.

During the run Texas State trailed 93-87 when there looked to be contact on a rebound that the SLC officiating crew first called off UTA. But after deliberating, the call was reversed and a foul on Brandon Thomas led to a pair of free throws by UTA's Anthony Vereen, giving the Mavs what was then their biggest lead. After scoreless possessions by both teams, Brandon Bush went the distance of the court after pulling down a rebound and went up for a shot, drawing contact. But Bush was called for a player control foul and Texas State coach Doug Davalos was whistled for a technical following the play.

Brandon Long hit the two free throws after the technical then scored from the field on UTA's next possession to give the Mavericks a 99-87 lead.

Texas State would get to within four, 105-101, on a Brent Holder three-pointer with 51 seconds to play but UTA would knock down their final five free throws to ice the win.

Moseley led the Bobcats with 23 points as all five of Texas State's starters scored in double figures. Moseley was 9-of-15 from the field, draining 4-of-6 three-pointers. Texas State freshman Antwon Williams matched a career high with 12 points and also had a career-high four blocks.

The Bobcats are back at home Thursday when they play host to McNeese State at 7 p.m.
