'Cats Capture Six Titles on SLC's Day Two

HOUSTON - Texas State's Katya Kostetskaya and Liudmila Litvinova both captured individual titles and were apart of a 4x400m relay team which set a Southland Conference record during the second day of the Southland Conference Indoor Track Meet held here Saturday.

Kostetskaya won the 800 meters in a time of 2:16.38 while Litvinova captured first place in the 400 meters in a time of 55.27. In the final women's event of the day, Kostetskaya and Litvinova teamed with Camilla Davis and Iris Darrington to clock a time of 3:42.27 in the 4x400m. Kostetskaya and Litvinova were on the 2006 relay squad which previously set the meet record with a time of 3:45.56.

Also setting a Southland Conference indoor championship record was shot putter Abby Ruston whose winning throw of 16.06 meters (52-08.25) was an NCAA Provisional-qualifying mark. Ruston's mark was more than a meter better than the second-top competitor at the event. Her 16.06 meter throw came on her final attempt.

Texas State's women scored 112.92 points to place second at the championship. Sam Houston State won the women's title with a score of 135 points. Texas-San Antonio won its second straight men's title, scoring 114.50 points. Texas State posted a seventh-place finish with 57.5 points.

Also capturing an SLC individual title for the second straight day was Robert Melin who had a winning throw of 17.23 meters (56-06.50) in the men's shot put. Melin captured the men's weight throw title with a meet-record throw of 18.67 meters on Friday. The Bobcats finished one-two in the men's shot put as Kemuel Morales' 17.11 meter throw on his first attempt would be good for second.

Texas State's Sonetriya Mayfield also captured a Southland Conference title in the women's triple jump with a mark of 12.03 meters (39-05.75). Teammate Sara Olaywiola posted a fifth-place finish in the event with a jump of 11.6 meters.

Placing third in the men's 60 meter hurdles was Clayton Bynum with a time of 8:03 while Dmitri Kabakov scored 4,854 points in the men's heptathlon to place fourth.
