HOUSTON -
Texas State (3-5) earned its first back-to-back wins during second day action at the Crown Plaza Classic in Houston with a 1-0, eight-inning win over Southern Illinois and a 5-3 victory over Centenary.
Sophomore Jetta Weinheimer headlined the `Cats on offense, scoring the game-winning run against the Salukis while hitting a two-run single to drive in the tying and go-ahead runs against Centenary.
Weinheimer finished the day 2-for-5 with a run and two RBIs. Ali McCormack had two hits and two walks on the day, and Lacey Duncan earned her first career RBI and first career hit.
Texas State was also dominant in the circle, as Sarah Lancour (1-2) and Ragan Blake (2-3) each struck out 11 in complete game wins. Lancour allowed one baserunner in eight innings, a lead-off double in the fifth, and retired the final 12 batters she faced.
Blake allowed three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out 11 herself against Centenary. Blake did get roughed up by Centenary's Haley Bassett, who had a solo home run and an RBI single, but got some late help from the Bobcat offense to earn the win.
Down 3-1 in the sixth inning, Texas State went to work on Ladies pitcher Stacy Whitmer. Lacey Duncan led off the inning with a single, advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by Alex Newton. McCormack was then called out on batter's interference for the second out of the inning, but the `Cats refused to give in.
Texas State hitters drew three straight two-out walks to pull within a run, and Weinheimer capped the comeback with a single to right that plated two and gave the Bobcats a 4-3 lead.
Texas State added another run in the inning, and Blake shut the door in the seventh for her second win.
The `Cats will play their final two games at the Crowne Plaza Classic tomorrow as Texas State will face No. 5 LSU at 9 a.m. and Missouri State at 1 p.m.
