Final Stats
College Station -
The Texas State Bobcat basketball team shot a season-low 33.3 percent from the field against No. 14 Texas A&M in a 109-73 dropped decision Saturday night in College Station. This is the second straight loss for the `Cats as they fall to 5-3 on their non-conference slate.
Cameron Johnson made his second start of the season, posting the first two points on the board for the `Cats. The Aggies, up by five, responded with two field goals until Corey Jefferson found the net from three-point range. After a timeout, Dylan Moseley emerged from the bench to pop a three-pointer, putting the score 15-8. A `Cats free throw coupled with two long range three's by Moseley brought Texas State within one point, 19-18, with 12:30 on the clock.
The `Cats went up by one with a lay-up from Brandon Bush, but A&M answered with a 19-3 run to reclaim the lead. Matt Fullenwider surfaced from the bench to drop in two points for the `Cats, but a duet of blocked shots by Dominique Kirk slowed Bobcat.
Brent Holder set off the offense after draining a three with one minute remaining to bringing the 'Cats back, 52-33. A steal finished with a lay-up from Brandon Thomas would finish off the first half of play for the Bobcats.
Coming off the half time break, the maroon squads went point-for-point, raising the score to 67-43. A rip by Moseley at 14:51 finished off by a jumper added two for the `Cats tally. The forward nearly pulled the feat off twice, but was whistled for an offensive foul underneath the basket. The `Cats forced its third consecutive turnover on a heated press, this time ending with Johnson connecting for two points, 67-47.
This would be the closest Texas State would come to Texas A&M, as the Aggies went on to post 37 points to the Bobcats next 18, pulling away for the win.
The `Cats were held to just 26-78 from the field and finished the evening with 37 rebounds. Texas State had 30 fouls against the maroon foe, double A&M's final tally.
Moseley was the leading scorer for the Bobcats, shooting 6-13 field goals and 4-8 from beyond the arc. His 16 point performance was his second double figure outing this season. Johnson paired with Bush to take the top rebounding spot with six, while each finished with 9 and 8 points, respectively.
Texas A&M was led by DeAndre Jordan and Donald Sloan, each with 18 point performances. The two combined for seven of 15 Aggie dunks against the `Cats. Texas A&M shot 41-61 from the field in the contest, nearly double the Bobcat's percentage.
Texas State will have a week's rest before traveling to Austin to take on the Texas Longhorns Dec. 15. Tip is set at 5 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on Fox Sports Network.
