Volleyball Sweeps UTPA 3-0 in Home Finale

SAN MARCOS - Texas State had five players with at least seven kills, and the Bobcats totaled 22 block assists to send seniors Brandy St. Francis and Ashley Stark off with a win in their final home game as Bobcats in a 3-0 (30-22, 30-22, 30-13) sweep of UTPA on Tuesday.

Texas State (17-10) evened its non-conference home record at 3-3 with the win while the Lady Broncs (11-17) snapped a two-game winning streak. Strahan Coliseum also got to share in the spotlight as the Coliseum's new video board debuted for the first time at a Bobcat home volleyball match.

A pair of 7-1 runs sealed a game one win for Texas State even though UTPA fought back to within three at 19-16 before falling 30-22. Weigle posted seven of her team-high 10 kills in the frame.

Texas State pulled away in game two as well after the teams traded points until the Bobcats held a 9-7 lead. From there Texas State built an eight point lead, and UTPA got no closer than five as the `Cats held a 2-0 half time lead with another 30-22 win.

After a Lawrencia Brown kill to start game three, Brittany Collins and Kacey Wimpy combined for 15 of the first 19 serves in the game to put Texas State up 16-2. From there it was clear sailing, led by Brown's four kills and five digs in the game as the Bobcats completed the sweep with a 30-13 win.

Brown finished with nine kills and 13 digs while St. Francis and Emily Jones each posted five blocks. As a team Texas State out-hit UTPA .312-to-.022.

The Lady Broncs were led by Marci Logan and Kellie Phillips, who each posted 10 kills.

Texas State now takes to the road to close out its 2007 schedule, traveling to Sam Houston State on Friday, November 9, at 7 p.m. before the final game of the regular season at Stephen F. Austin on Saturday, November 10, at 4 p.m.
