First Round Results

MANY, La. - Texas State's Michael Carnes shot a one-under par 71 to open play at the Third Annual Battle on the Bend Sunday. Carnes' score places him in a tie for sixth after the first round of the tournament being played at Cypress Bend Golf Resort.

Carnes helped the Bobcats to a fourth-place team start in the tournament. Texas State shot a 299 Sunday and is 15 strokes off the first-round lead held by host Louisiana-Lafayette (284). Sam Houston State shot a 286 and is in second place while Missouri-Kansas City shot a 289 and is in third at the nine-team tournament.

David Drake is tied for 13th at the tournament after shooting a 73 on Sunday.

The tournament continues through Tuesday.
