SAN MARCOS - The Texas State soccer senior class played out their final minutes wearing maroon and white this afternoon in a 3-0 victory against Lamar Sunday at Bobcat Field.

The win closes out the Bobcats season at 4-4-2 in conference and their fate of a tournament appearance lies with either a Sam Houston State loss or tie against Southeastern Louisiana. The Southland Championship tournament will begin November 8th in Natchitoches, La.

The Lamar Cardinals fall to 0-9-0 in SLC action and 0-18-0 overall.

In an impressive outing, the Bobcats took a total of 28 shots, fifteen of which were on goal. The defensive efforts of senior Laura Burden and her troops were able to limit the Cardinals to just four shots in the 90 minute showcase, giving Amanda Byrd a lighter load between the pipes, tallying two saves for the day.

After a scoreless first period, Andrea Grifo posted her first two points for the season. Nikki Kinard set up a corner, allowing Grifo to head in the goal just two minutes after the half began.

The combination of Lindsay Tippit and Britney Curry closed out the game for the final two goals of the afternoon. In the 62nd minute of action, Tippit was able to bring Cardinal goalie Kesie Binetti out of the net far enough to leave a right-side gap open. Curry took advantage of the vacancy and posted her eighth goal of the season.

Ten minutes shy of the final buzzer, the pair found each other to seal the 3-0 decision over Lamar. Tippit dribbled down the right side of the field and with a swift pass found Curry set up in the center of the box. Curry connected for a record nine goals in one season, joining senior captain Jerelyn Lemmie (2005) and former Bobcats Jaynee Sherman (2003) and Reta Derouin (2001).

Following the afternoon's contest, a tribute ceremony was held for the 2007 Bobcat senior class. Team captains Erin Mursch and Jerelyn Lemmie along with Angela Crissy and Laura Burden were each presented gifts from the Texas State soccer coaching staff.
