After a two-week hiatus, Texas State women's soccer team opened Southland Conference play on the road, against Southeastern Louisiana Friday. After a grueling match, including two overtime periods, each team walked away scoreless, leaving the Bobcats 0-0-1 in Southland play.
Bobcat goalie Amanda Byrd recorded two saves. Her first deflection occurred in the second half of play, while the final save was slapped away in the second overtime period. Southeastern took a total of eight shots throughout the match, while Texas State recorded seven.
All three of Texas State's shots on goal came in overtime. The Bobcats had two shots on goal in the first extra stanza and had another opportunity in the second overtime period. SLU goalie Holly Moran went the distance between the pipes for the Lions.
After an 0-8 start, Texas State defeated Houston two weeks ago, 4-0, and the Bobcat defense held a second opponent scoreless in as many outings on Friday. The Lady Lions (5-2-3) came off a road loss to Southern Mississippi before entering into league action tonight.
The `Cats will continue conference play, traveling to Thibodaux, La., to battle Nicholls State on Sunday. The match is slated for a 1:00 p.m. start.
