Natchitoches, La. -
Two goals in the last seven minutes of regulation was enough to keep the Texas State Bobcats afloat, but scoreless extra frames forced the decision to a 3-3 double overtime tie with Northwestern State on Friday.
The outcome moves the `Cats overall record to 3-10-2 and they will enter Sunday's SLC contest with a 2-2-2 league record.
On a cross by Erin Hebert, Lady Demon Kayce Schultz scored the first goal of the night in the ninth minute to open the contest. Sophomore Lindsay Tippit tried to retaliate, but was repeatedly turned away by Northwestern's Johnna Klohoker after attempting four shots on goal in a five minute interval.
Senior captain Jerelyn Lemmie finally broke through in the 63rd minute and tied the contest, notching her third goal of the season. The Demon duo of Schultz and Hebert answered Lemmie's shot, giving Schultz a chance to score and tally her ninth goal for the season. Rose Lawrence posted the third goal for Northwestern to cushion a 3-1 lead.
With minutes remaining in regulation, the `Cats played with force, opening a space for freshman Britney Curry to score, recording her sixth goal of the season. On an assist from teammate Audra Randell in the 88th minute, Curry answered again to close the gap and send the 3-3 match into overtime.
Despite taking a combined eleven shots, four of which were on goal, neither team was able to connect in the extra frames.
Bobcat goalie Amanda Byrd saw all 110 minutes between the pipes, turning away 19 shots and recording 10 saves in the contest.
The Bobcats continue their road course traveling to Conway, Ark. to take on Central Arkansas. The Sunday contest is scheduled for 1 p.m.
