Final Stats
SAN MARCOS -
A two-goal deficit at halftime proved too much for Texas State to overcome as the Bobcats dropped a 3-1 decision to Texas-San Antonio in Southland action on Sunday.
The loss drops the Bobcats to 2-2-1 in SLC play and 3-10-1 overall. UTSA improves to 3-1-1 in conference and 5-7-2 overall.
Bobcat forward Nicole Kinnard made an attempt in the 21st minute of play to spark the Bobcats' offense, firing a shot toward the net, but Roadrunner goalie Allison McCabe was able to avert the shot, recording one of her two saves in the match.
On an assist from Veronica Najera five minutes later, UTSA's Alli Dillon put the first goal on the board, notching her sixth of the season, igniting the Roadrunner offense.
Teammate Joy Jarrell took advantage of a deflected header by Texas State, pulling Bobcat goalie Mandi Mawyer away from the net, allowing her to score from 12 yards out and put the Roadrunners up 2-0 leading into halftime.
Freshman Amanda Byrd defended the net in the second half of play turning away eight Roadrunner shots, recording six saves. However a goal into the left side of the net by Najera slipped by Byrd in the 62nd minute to give the Roadrunners a 3-0 lead. Alli Dillon and Laurel Dierking were credited with the assist.
One minute later, the Roadrunners scored again, only in the Bobcat net, headed in by Ezinne Okpo.
Bobcat Reagan McNutt had an opportunity to connect, but her shot was deflected by Okpo. Texas State had just eight shots in the contest; only two were on goal.
