UTA Fall Classic Results

FORT WORTH - Texas State played its best golf of the week on Tuesday, shooting a 294 to finish 10th at the UTA Fall Classic.

Texas State headed into the day in 13th place at the 15-team tournament. The Bobcats had an opening round 307 but shot a 296 Monday afternoon. Texas State finished with a three-round score of 897 (+33).

Sophomore Michael Carnes rebounded from an opening-round 82 to shoot a 70 Monday afternoon followed by a 73 Tuesday to finish as Texas State's top individual finisher, tying for 42nd place.

After a 20-stroke lead through two rounds, Texas-Arlington also shot a +6, 294 on Tuesday to win its own tournament by 14 strokes over second place Central Oklahoma.

Arkansas State's Lloyd du Preez won the tournament with a three-round score of 210, -6 on the par-72, 7,304-yard course. Placing second two strokes back of du Preez was Central Oklahoma's Colby Shrum and UTA's Michael van de Venter.

Texas State will participate in its fourth fall tournament Oct. 28-29 when they tavel to Kerrville and Comanche Trace Golf Club for the Roadrunner Intercollegiate. Texas State played host to the 2007 Southland Conference Championship at the same course this past April.
