Texas State couldn't maintain momentum after a game one win, dropping three straight games to SLC East leading Lamar to lose 3-1 (30-22, 27-30, 28-30, 19-30) on Friday.
Melinda Cave had a match-high 16 kills and swung .519 to lead the Bobcats (12-8, 5-3 SLC) while Lamar (17-7, 8-0 SLC) ran its winning streak to 13 games overall and eight straight in conference play.
The `Cats controlled game one after jumping out to a 15-9 lead and never trailing in the opening frame, winning 30-22.
Game two looked to be similar as Texas State opened with a 10-3 run. The Cardinals battled back, evening game two at 17-17 before taking a 19-18 lead. The teams went back and forth until it was tied again at 26-26, but Lamar scored four of the final five points, closing out the 30-27 win on a pair of Kaci Brewer kills.
Lamar came from behind again in a critical game three, erasing a 20-12 Texas State lead with a 10-2 run that tied it at 22-22. The teams found themselves tied again at 27-27 before a Lawrencia Brown kill put Texas State up 28-27, but Lamar finished strong by scoring the next three points thanks to a pair of Bobcat errors and take the 2-1 lead in the match.
Texas State couldn't rebound in game four to keep the match going thanks to a 13-4 Cardinals run that put Lamar up 22-13, as they went on to win 30-19.
Brown added 15 kills for the Bobcats while Shelbi Irvin and Brittany Collins each finished with 23 assists. Defensively, Kacey Wimpy had a match-high 26 digs while Amy Weigle had six blocks.
Lamar was led by Brewer and Molli Abel's 15 kills apiece, while Adrianne Meengs had 14 kills and 46 assists. Three Cardinals finished with 10 or more digs, led by Andrea Hamilton's 16.
Texas State continues its road trip with a quick turnaround by facing McNeese State in Lake Charles, La., on Saturday at 3 p.m.
