Antuane Miller scored a game-high 23 points off the bench to lead Stephen F. Austin to an 82-62 road win over Texas State here Thursday. Miller went 10-for-11 in a season-high scoring night.
With the win, Stephen F. Austin improved to 12-6 and 5-1 in Southland Conference play. Texas State dropped to 8-12 and 3-4 in the league. SFA returns home to play host to Texas-Arlington Saturday while the Bobcats travel to Sam Houston State for a 7 p.m.
A 19-4, first-half run by the Lumberjacks broke open a two-point game. Texas State's George Kiel hit a three-pointer to cut an early SFA lead to 16-14 before a Lumberjack rally ended with seven straight points, including a three-pointer by Keith Hardaway. Hardaway added eight points off the bench.
By halftime, SFA had stretched its lead to 42-24. The `Jacks connected on 16-of-23 first-half shots with half their buckets coming on layins.
Stephen F. Austin maintained its 20-point lead for much of the second half, extending its advantage to as many as 27 points in the period.
Sophomore center Matt Kingsley was the only Stephen F. Austin starter to score in double figures, finishing with 14 points.
SFA shot 65 percent from the field and knocked down 5-of-10 three-point attempts. The Lumberjacks would hold the Bobcats to 37 percent shooting from the field.
Brandon Bush led the Bobcats with 19 points while Chris Agwumaro scored 11.
Stephen F. Austin and Texas State will meet again on the hardwood Feb. 22 in Nacogdoches.
