SAN ANTONIO - Brooke DeGrate scored a career-high 19 points, including six straight during a crucial stretch, as a late Texas State rally led to a 76-64 win over UTSA in San Antonio Saturday night.

DeGrate led all scorers and was one of four Bobcats in double figures. Janesha Washington and Joyce Ekworomadu each had 14, and Erica Putnam recorded her fourth straight double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The win improved the Bobcats' record to 12-7 overall and 5-1 in conference while UTSA fell to 6-10 on the season and a 2-2 SLC mark.

Vivan Ewalefo scored six of UTSA's first eight points as the Roadrunners built an 11-6 lead five minutes into the game, but Ryann Bradford hit a three to start an 8-0 Bobcat run as Texas State held a 16-13 lead when the second media time out hit with 11:46 on the clock.

UTSA fought back to tie it at 21 with 8:30 remaining in the half, and the game would stay close until Ewalefo picked up her third foul with 4:39 left. The Bobcats used momentum to build a six point lead, as Texas State would go up at half time 38-34.

The Roadrunners shot out of the gates in the second half, using a 10-3 run to take a 46-43 lead. UTSA would lead by as many as five, but Texas State would stay close.

The `Cats would make their move with just over six minutes remaining. Putnam got her own rebound off a miss and made a short jumper to tie at 56, and on the next Roadrunner possession Washington stole a pass and found Ekworomadu for a fast break lay-up and the first Bobcat lead in 10 minutes.

UTSA kept it close until DeGrate took over. DeGrate hit four straight free throws, then had a steal and fast-break lay-up to put the Bobcats on top 68-60 with 3:10 on the clock. She then had another steal that led to an Ekworomadu free throw and a nine point Bobcat lead.

The Roadrunners tried a last minute comeback, but Ekworomadu connected on four straight free throws as Texas State put away UTSA 76-64.

Ewafelo led the Roadrunners with 15 in the losing effort, as the Bobcats held UTSA to under 40 percent shooting for the game.

The Bobcats will next make another trip east to face Stephen F. Austin on Thursday at 7 p.m. in Nacogdoches.
