EL PASO, TEXAS - The Texas State women's soccer team dropped its opening game at the Border Classic in El Paso with a 3-1 loss to Western Carolina Friday night.

Senior Kristy Collison became the fourth different Bobcat player to score a goal in 2006, but the Western Carolina offense proved too much for Texas State goalkeeper Brittany Beltramini.

Lauren Atkinson, Buki Baruwa and Meghan Reilly each found the back of the net for the Catamounts. It was the first win of the season for Western Carolina, who last season recorded a program best 18 victories.

The Bobcats will look to salvage the trip west with a game Sunday, Sept. 10 against host school UTEP. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. Central time against the Miners, who will play a doubleheader against Southland schools on Sunday. UTEP will face Sam Houston State at 11 a.m. Central before closing out the Border Classic against the Bobcats.
