Box Score

HOUSTON, Texas - Houston's Sophia Mundy and Courtney Gaines each scored twice as the Bobcats lost 4-1 to the Cougars Sunday afternoon in Houston in Texas State's last game before the start of conference play.

The loss drops the `Cats to 1-8 on the season and winless in their last six. Texas State's only win of the season came in a 2-0 home victory over Centenary on Sept. 1.

The Cougars (6-4) got on the board in the 9th minute when Mundy headed in a Gaines cross. Seven minutes later it was Gaines who scored on a penalty kick to increase the lead to 2-0. Each player also added another goal in the second half.

Texas State senior Elyse Ehlinger managed a goal in the 85th minute off a rebound to avoid a Bobcat shutout. Ehlinger's first goal of the season made her the eighth different Texas State player to record a goal in 2006. Ehlinger also continued the current program-long streaks of both games to open a season and total goals scored without having a player score multiple goals.

Freshman Samantha Fraser made eight saves in the loss, dropping her to 0-4 in 2006. Shelby Scott matched Fraser's eight saves for Houston and did not allow a goal in nearly 84 minutes before being replaced by Lynn Baker, who allowed Ehlinger's score.

Texas State will now ready itself for the Southland Conference season set to begin this Wednesday. The Bobcats will travel to San Antonio to face UTSA, who is in their first year of varsity women's soccer. Kick off for the game is set for 7:00 p.m.
