The Bobcat women's soccer team got a late goal off the foot of junior forward Jerelyn Lemmie but fell to No. 23 Long Beach State 6-1 Friday night at the La Quinta Inn & Suites High Altitude Tournament in Flagstaff, Arizona.
Lemmie's goal came in the 88th minute and was assisted by freshman Andrea Grifo. It was the first goal of the season for Lemmie, who became the fifth different Bobcat player to score on the season. Grifo also notched her team-leading second assist on the play.
Long Beach State midfielder Kim Silos scored twice in the first half to give the 49ers a 2-0 cushion at half time. Forward Sahar Hagdan also added two second half goals as four different 49er players scored.
Texas State freshman Samantha Fraser started in goal for the first time in her career and played the entire match. Fraser made nine saves as the Long Beach State offense tested her constantly. The 49ers finished with 20 total shots, 15 of which were on goal, compared to the Bobcats' ten shots with three on goal.
The loss drops Texas State to 1-5-0 in non-conference play while Long Beach State improves to 6-1-0. The Bobcats will conclude their trip with a game Sunday afternoon against host school Northern Arizona.
