SAN MARCOS -
Second half goals by freshman Andrea Seledee and junior Angela Crissy capped an impressive offensive performance by the Bobcats as the Texas State women's soccer team shut out Centenary College 2-0 before a record crowd of 1,176 at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.
The stands were overflowing on both sides and even in the auxiliary seating area, surpassing the old attendance mark of 834 set against Rice in 2004. The Bobcats didn't fail to disappoint either, giving the record crowd plenty of excitement.
After a scoreless first half, Seledee got Texas State on the board in the 69th minute. Senior Kim Phillips hit the crossbar on a shot, and the ricochet went straight to Seledee, who buried it into the back of the net.
Eleven minutes later, the Bobcats struck again on a more conventional style of passing. Freshman Andrea Grifo sent a cross into fellow freshman Lindsay Tippit, who sent a perfect header to Crissy. With plenty of open room, Crissy had no problem doubling the Texas State lead to 2-0.
For the game the Bobcats outshot the Ladies 22-3, including an impressive 16-1 margin in the second half alone. Tippit attempted a game high five shots and earned her first career point with an assist on Crissy's goal. Phillips and Grifo also received assists in the game.
Centenary broke free for two open shot attempts in the first half and one in the second, but senior goalkeeper Brittany Beltramini stopped two shots while a third one went wide right to earn her first win and shutout.
The Bobcats will look to continue their winning ways next weekend when they travel to El Paso for the Border Classic hosted by UTEP. Texas State will face Western Carolina on Friday, Sept. 8 before facing off against the host Miners on Sunday, Sept. 10.
