SAN MARCOS -
The Texas State women's soccer team defeated Saint Mary's 1-0 in an exhibition Saturday night on senior forward Natalie Holder's second half goal before a crowd of 552 at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.
Holder's goal came in the 66th minute on a breakaway. A perfect lead pass from fellow senior Kim Phillips combined with Holder's perfectly timed run beat the Rattler defense and left Holder one on one against Saint Mary's goalie Lily Cano.
Despite the goal, Saint Mary's actually out-shot the Bobcats 15-8 for the match, but the duo of seniors Brittany Beltramini and Paige Perriraz stopped everything they saw. Beltramini recorded four saves and Perriraz added five.
The Rattlers had two missed scoring opportunities in the first half against Beltramini. On the first Beltramini stopped three consecutive shots in the box off of rebounds. The second came when Beltramini ventured out of the box to try and clear the ball and was forced to make two sliding tackles before the ball went out of bounds.
With Perriraz in goal for the second half, the Bobcats continued to withstand pressure from several Saint Mary's corner kicks. For the game the Rattlers took seven corner kicks to the Bobcats' two.
This marked the lone exhibition match on the Bobcat soccer schedule. Texas State will open the regular season on Friday, Aug. 25, against Oklahoma State in San Marcos at the Bobcat Soccer Complex. Game time is set for 7:00 pm. The Bobcats will also have another home match on Sunday, Aug. 27, against North Texas. That game will have a 1:00 pm start time.
